It's like a big paint splatter of JOY!!! Again, Doug TenNapel style. Both challenging, but totally fun. You just let creativity flow onto the paper (or computer screen), and not worry about erasing or undo-ing (though the urge is SOOO strong).
Anyhoo, I had a lot of fun drawing this sucker. I didn't care about neatness, I just put down what FELT right. Though I'm looking at poor Gear and his bent leg, hahaha!
Anyway, if you guys haven't read GEAR, you need to!!! It's one of the best comics/stories I've ever read! And that's pretty big... I'm very picky when it comes to comics. Bone being my most favorite comic of all time, Gear is my second most fav comic of all time.
Alittle about this: DON'T COMPARE IT WITH THE SHOW CATSCRATCH!!!!! I love the show to death, but Gear is definetely NOT catscratch in alot of ways. In fact, the only thing that links the two together are Mr. Black, Waffle, and Gordon. Everything else is different. Gear takes place during a war between the Newtonian Cats of the Mountains, and the larger more technologically advanced (and power hungry) civilizations of the North (that being the North Plate Cats and the Dogtown Dogs). Each civilization protects itself with these things called Guardians (which are practically giant robots). And seeing how the Newtonian Cats only have one old and beat up Guardian that isn't able to protect the town anymore, they send out four unlikely heroes to find another guardian to protect the town from the raging war that's drawing closer every day. These "heroes" being Mr. Black, Waffle, Gordon, and Simon. During there quest we find out about a forbidden mechanism that everyone is after. A device which can make any guardian invincible.
The rest of the story.... you'll have to find out for yourself.... Bookths are fun!!!
i just hafta say ...holy crap.... because you totally captured the exact feel and....and...well everything that is gear! i think it is the best fan art that i have ever seen!
That was one of the best comics I've ever read. <3 Your piece really captures the style and feel of the story. Mr. Black had to be my favorite. Though I'm sure a lot of people say that. xD Too bad simon had such little apperance in the book. His death was far more abrupt than I would have thought. I love the disgruntled look you gave him.
OMG. O_O I friggin' love this. The color scheme, the lineart, the wackiness, the....arrrrgh, it's just all-around kick-ass to the max. But I think Gear is my favorite here; he's so cute and happy looking.
Simon looks NOT happy. Though I do know why. Also love how you captured the comics colouring technique that was put into the reprint. I tried the sumi-e technique too. It's quite liberating.

There is not enough Gear fanart on dA. DX

poor Simon, first he worries about his bro and guppies and then he gets stepped on. ^w^ hahaha
Thank you! I enjoyed using a brush and ink for once. I'm definitely gonna use it more often. ^o^
